Hi! My name is Ana, and I am a journalism and political science student at the University of Massachusetts. This is my audio portfolio, featuring three pieces created in my Reporting for Radio and Podcasting class at UMass: a profile of a classmate, a radio-style story about expressive arts therapy in the classroom during COVID-19 and the first episode of a hypothetical podcast about the disappearance of Maura Murray.

For this profile, I interviewed one of my classmates, Maggie Cawley, about her experience working at the UMass Rec Center when the University shut down for COVID-19. She talks about the quick transition to COVID protocol and how not being able to work an on-campus job has affected her this semester.

This radio-style story features interviews from Kayrin Brower and Kay Park, two expressive arts therapy majors at Lesley University. Brower and Park interned with young children this semester, and in this podcast they discuss the impacts of online school and how they have seen expressive arts therapy help kids in the virtual classroom. Lesley professor Nancy Jo Cardillo explains to listeners what expressive arts therapy is and what it can do for clients.

The last piece in my portfolio is the first episode in a hypothetical limited series about the mysterious disappearance of UMass student Maura Murray in 2004. “Where is Maura Murray?” seeks to break down and debunk popular conspiracy theories surrounding the case, as well as educate listeners on Murray’s disappearance. Abigail Charpentier, former news editor of the Massachusetts Daily Collegian, and Emma Garber, current opinion editor at the Collegian, are featured on the episode and provide listeners with details of the case, as well as details of popular theories of what happened to Murray.
